Viccram99:
Before you become a Muslim read what Quran says about friendship with Jews and
Christians.
005.051
YUSUFALI: O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your
friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And
he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust.
PICKTHAL: O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for friends.
They are friends one to another. He among you who taketh
them for friends is (one) of them. Lo! Allah guideth
not wrongdoing folk.
SHAKIR: O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends;
they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a
friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust
people.
RKC: The Qur'an also says...
060.007
It may be that Allah will grant love (and friendship) between you and those
whom ye (now) hold as enemies. For Allah has power (over all things); And Allah
is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
060.008
Allah forbids you not, with regard to
those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from
dealing kindly and justly with them: for Allah loveth
those who are just.
060.009
Allah only forbids you, with regard to those
who fight you for (your) Faith, and drive you out of your homes, and support
(others) in driving you out, from turning to them (for friendship and
protection). It is such as turn to them (in these circumstances), that do wrong.
Viccram99: Any one with common sense does not make friends with people who
drive you out of your homes, like true muslims, taibans of Isalmic republic did
to muslims of Afgahnistan.
RKC: A "true Muslim" follows the Qur'an.
According to you, the Taliban drove people out of their homes. So based on Surah 60:9, they are not following the Qur'an because they
are doing something which God has forbidden and should not be taken as friends
or protectors by "true Muslims" (those who follow the Qur'an). Are you
telling me "true Christians" don't follow the New Testament?
Viccram99: The second worse does not mention any relgion
and the first worse is quiet clear that muslims
should not take Jews and Christians friends and proetctors.
If muslims do that, they become one of them.
RKC: Let's continue with the "first verse".
I'll highlight some of the following verses which should have given you an
understanding of the verse you cited.
005.051
O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and
protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst
you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust.
005.052
Those in whose hearts is a disease - thou
seest how eagerly they run about amongst them,
saying: "We do fear lest a change of fortune bring us disaster." Ah!
perhaps Allah will give (thee) victory, or a decision according to His will.
Then will they repent of the thoughts which they secretly harboured
in their hearts.
005.053
And those who believe will say: "Are
these the men who swore their strongest oaths by Allah, that
they were with you?" All that they do will be in vain, and they will fall
into (nothing but) ruin.
005.054
O ye who believe! if any from among you turn
back from his Faith, soon will Allah produce a people whom He will love as they
will love Him,- lowly with the believers, mighty against the rejecters, fighting
in the way of Allah, and never afraid of the reproaches of such as find fault.
That is the grace of Allah, which He will bestow on whom He pleaseth.
And Allah encompasseth all, and He knoweth all things.
005.055
Your (real) friends are (no less than)
Allah, His Messenger, and the (fellowship of) believers,- those who establish
regular prayers and regular charity, and they bow down humbly (in worship).
005.056
As to those who turn (for friendship) to
Allah, His Messenger, and the (fellowship of) believers,- it is the fellowship
of Allah that must certainly triumph.
005.057
O ye who believe! take not for friends
and protectors those who take your religion for a mockery or sport,- whether
among those who received the Scripture before you, or among those who reject
Faith; but fear ye Allah, if ye have faith (indeed).
005.058
When ye proclaim your call to prayer they
take it (but) as mockery and sport; that is because they are a people without
understanding.
005.059
Say: "O people of the Book! Do ye
disapprove of us for no other reason than that we believe in Allah, and the
revelation that hath come to us and that which came before (us), and (perhaps)
that most of you are rebellious and disobedient?"
RKC: Its not directed at
every Jew or Christian. Its directed at those who
"take your religion for a mockery or sport-whether among those who received
the Scripture (Jews or Christians), or among those who reject faith
(pagans)" and those who are "rebellious and disobedient". If
these conditions are not present or anticipated, then they are allowed as
friends as Surah 60:8 states and which you ignored.
If you disagree, feel free to explain Surah 60:7-9 in
the context of the verse you have cited.
Viccram99: Now the question is since
RKC: Your not
comprehending the meaning of "And he amongst you that turns to them (for
friendship) is of them". It's not meant in the sense of you have accepted
their beliefs. I'll put it in the context of Surah 60
referenced above. If I take for friends people who I know fight others for
their faith and drive them out of their homes, then I have agreed and condone
such behavior. That is how you become "of them".
So, Saudia Arabia or
