RKC: There is a brief description in Revelations. It will quiet the argument Jesus(p) looked like a European as depicted in "The Passion of Christ" or several other movies and pictures of him. After John is supposedly expelled to the island of Patmos, he sees Jesus(p) and says...

Revelations 1

12. Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands,

13. and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden girdle round his breast;

14. his head and his hair were white as white wool, white as snow; his eyes were like a flame of fire,

15. his feet were like burnished bronze, refined as in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of many waters;

16. in his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth issued a sharp two edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength

RKC: If his skin were bronze, he would more closely resemble the current Palestinians who live in the same area where Jesus lived. Also, in almost all depictions of Jesus(p) you see a man with long, shoulder length hair and neatly trimmed beard. Due to Jesus'(p), financial status its unlikely he shaved very much. At the time, shaving was a luxury. Based on what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 11, its unlikely Jesus(p) wore his hair long.

1 Corinthians 11

14. Does not nature itself teach you that for a man to wear long hair is degrading to him.

Subject: An Inquiry from the Village regarding the origin of Jesus

Hi Ossie,

Again I would like to thank you for all of the informative e-mails and interesting dialogs you provide within your listserv.

I would like to put a question out to anyone who can provide an answer to a simple but complex issue.  I have often heard that the depiction of Christ as white is not historically correct or even scientifically possible.  I have never, however, found or heard reference to a bibical scripture that actually describes him. [by the way.....there is no Rev. 13:20!]

Can anyone tell me where the "wooley hair and bronze skin" inference is documented?

If there has been an historical distortion of fact, now would be a good time to put the truth out there.

Thanks,
Nubiansbe
