IOP ISA: Muhammad NEVER took a single mistress or
concubine in his entire life. Anyone who says he did is misinformed or is
trying desperately to denigrate Islam and the good character of Muhammad.
GodofVice007: And yet didn't he say you could have sex with slave women and
wives of killed enemy husbands?
RKC: Please see below.
1. The believers must (eventually) win through,-
2. Those who humble themselves in their prayers;
3. Who avoid vain talk;
4. Who are active in deeds of charity;
5. Who abstain from sex,
6. Except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the
captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (in their case) they are
free from blame,
32. Nor come nigh to adultery: for it is a shameful
(deed) and an evil, opening the road (to other evils).
32. Marry those among you who are single, or the
virtuous ones among yourselves, male or female: if they are in poverty, Allah
will give them means out of His grace: for Allah encompasseth all, and he
knoweth all things.
33. Let those who find not the wherewithal for
marriage keep themselves chaste, until Allah gives them means out of His grace.
And if any of your slaves ask for a deed in writing (to enable them to earn
their freedom for a certain sum), give them such a deed if ye know any good in
them: yea, give them something yourselves out of the means which Allah has
given to you. But force not your maids to prostitution when they desire
chastity, in order that ye may make a gain in the goods of this life. But if
anyone compels them, yet, after such compulsion, is Allah, Oft-Forgiving, Most
Merciful (to them),
2988. The subject of sex ethics and manners brings
us to the subject of marriage. “Single” here means any one not in the bond of
wedlock, whether unmarried or lawfully divorced, or widowed. If we can, we must
marry in our own circle, but if we have not the means, there is no harm if we
choose from a lower circle, provided
our choice is determined by virtue. Poverty in the other party does not matter
if there is virute and love. A happily married man has the best wealth
in a virtuous wife, and his very happiness makes him a better potential earner
of wealth. A slave becomes
free by marriage.
2990. A Muslim marriage requires some sort of a
dower for the wife. If the man cannot afford that, he must wait and keep
himself chaste. It is no
excuse for him to say that he must satisy his natural cravings within or
outside of marriage. It must be within marriage.
24. Also (prohibited are) women already married, except those whom your
right hands possess: Thus hath Allah ordained (Prohibitions) against
you: Except for these, all others are lawful, provided ye seek (them in
marriage) with gifts from your property,- desiring chastity, not lust, seeing
that ye derive benefit from them, give them their dowers (at least) as
prescribed; but if, after a dower is prescribed, agree Mutually (to vary it),
there is no blame on you, and Allah is All-knowing, All-wise.
25. If any of you have not the means wherewith to
wed free believing women, they may wed believing girls from among those whom
your right hands possess: And Allah hath full knowledge about your faith. Ye
are one from another: Wed them with the leave of their owners, and give them
their dowers, according to what is reasonable: They should be chaste, not lustful, nor taking paramours:
when they are taken in wedlock, if they fall into shame, their
punishment is half that for free women. This (permission) is for those among
you who fear sin; but it is better for you that ye practise self-restraint. And
Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
537. Whom your right hands possess: i.e. captives
in a Jihad.
538. After defining the prohibited degrees, the
verse proceeds to say that women other than those specified may be sought in
marriage, but even so, not
from motives of lust, but in order to promote chastity between the sexes.
Marriage in the original Arabic is here described by a word which suggests a
fortress (hisn): marriage is therefore the fortress of chastity.
